The brief for this project was to design a bottle opener. With such an open brief, I wanted to target something specific and meaningful, settling on the idea of a minimalist product for a visually impaired user.

I took lots of inspiration from existing cutlery design as well as thinking outside the box for options such as a machine that would open the bottle for you.

The result was an extremely angular bottle opener made out of a single piece of polished aluminium. The product features an LED on the inside of the product facing forward so users with reduced vision can use the light to see in front of them better, and see exactly where they are placing the bottle opener on the bottle. The LED is operated by a single rubber button on the back of the product. The polished finish and rounded edges make the product look and feel extremely premium.
