The brief for this project was to design an alarm clock. I wanted to flip the open brief and give myself a very specific target market. As I am a huge Formula 1 fan it wasn't long before I set myself the goal of designing an alarm clock that would appeal particularly to motorsport fans.

I took inspiration from the form of racing cars, both modern and classic. Inspiration was also taken from the extreme complexity of some components, and the contrasting simplicity of others. I was particularly drawn to the form of the quad exhaust, seen second from the right on the bottom row of pictures above.

The finished product was a carbon fibre base with 4 cyclinders, each with a clockface for a different popular timezones. The 4 clockfaces where heavily inspired by the quad exhaust seen in many Pagani cars. This also offered the opportunity to display multiple timezones, a feature that could be very useful to the millions of fans who travel to races. I can see this product being perfect for hotels that get a high amount of motorsport fans, such as the Yas Hotel which is part of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix circuit and is filled with motorsport fans annually.

The alarm clock features a dial for each timezone that can be turned and pressed to set an alarm. The black hands on the clockface represent the current time in that timezone, while the red hands represent the alarm time.

The alarm clock comes in a dark chrome version for a classy, understated aesthetic. It is also available in a gold plated version that is flashier and true to the materials of the exhaust that inspired it.
